Thanks to all of our members who came out to our membership meeting yesterday who make us #UnionStrong. Officers and Committee Co-chairs gave reports, updates, and spoke about how members can get involved!
Report below:
Chapter President Ed Quinn provided an update about UUP addressing Salary Compression, thanked the outgoing chapter officers from the prior term for their service, and discussed the member benefits representatives on hand to serve our members.
Diversity Officer Joseph Pierce, spoke about working on diversity, inclusion ,and equity issues, as well as developing a committee of members to work on this together.
Grievance Officers Josh Dubnau and Dominique Barone spoke about the Grievance & Workplace Concerns Committee, & how we are now working on solving non-contractual workplace issues for members. The committee has tackled 21 separate cases that are either closed or in progress.
Vice President for Academics, Gene Hammond spoke about how his first union when he was young was all white men, and how proud his is to be part of a diverse union.
Officer for Contingents Shoshana Hershkowitz defined what a ‘contingent’ member is, and spoke about the efforts the Contingent Rights and Concerns Committee is taking to reach out to contingent members and non-members to increase their voice in our chapter. She also discussed her role as Outreach Coordinator for the chapter developing Political Action & lobbying efforts. She discussed how her & Chapter President Ed Quinn met with elected officials over the summer, as well as the importance of local elections & early voting.
University Senate President Nancy Tomes & Secretary Pam Wolfskill presented an update on the latest Senate Developments, such as the Presidential Search Committee. They also thanked our Communication Cmte for their coverage of Senate meetings, as well as livestreaming efforts.
Secretary Jeff Heinz discussed our commitment to getting meeting minutes and information on our website within 48 hours of a meeting, and encouraged members to engage our chapter on social media.
Disability Rights and Concerns committee co-chairs Pam Wolfskill and Pam Matzner spoke about the committee’s work to make members aware of their rights, campus policies, improve accessibility, and advocacy efforts.
Membership Development Officer Andrew Solar-Greco spoke about our current membership numbers, thanked Department Representatives for their service, & encouraged more folks consider becoming one. He also encouraged members to get involved with our committees and attend upcoming events.
