Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)

An 8-Week Course to Improve Health and Increase a Sense of Balance, Resilience, and Well-Being.

Fri, February 28 4:30-6 PM

Location: Wang Chapel

What is MBSR?

MBSR is a structured 8-week course. Through meditation, gentle movement, and discussion, MBSR teaches simple yet profound practices that cultivate and develop participants’ innate capacity to meet the challenges and demands of their lives.

The MBSR course was developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts’ Medical Center. It has been featured in countless media segments, hundreds of research studies and is now offered all over the world in hospitals, schools, business, and sports. The program is described in Dr. Kabat-Zinn’s best selling book, Full Catastrophe Living, and is featured in the Bill Moyers’ PBS documentary Healing and the Mind and the CBS 60 Minutes’ Special.

Who is the class for?

The course is for anyone who is ready to be more active in their health and well-being, who wants to improve their ability to cope with stress, and who wants to increase their sense of ease and peace of mind.

Spring 2020 Introductory sessions

Participants are strongly encouraged to attend one of the free introductory sessions before registering for the 8-week MBSR course.

At the free session, you will meet the instructors, learn about the benefits of training in mindfulness, and you will get a first-hand experience in mindfulness practice so you can decide whether the 8- week course is right for you.  To register for the free session, contact Colleen Stanley at the Stony Brook EAP, 631- 632-6085 or visit the SBU/EAP website by clicking here.
