It is important to be informed about your rights related to working conditions. That’s why we’re offering informational workshops to make sure our members know about the protections we have as workers and as part of our collective bargaining agreement.
Workshop topics and descriptions are below. All workshops will be held on Zoom. Please RSVP on our chapter calendar for the Zoom link.
Thursday, October 20 @ 3 PM: Getting to Tenure
The road to tenure requires hard work, focus and determination. Any candidate for tenure would be wise not only to continue their excellent work, but to also learn (or review) what the rules and best practices are in the tenure consideration process. Toward that end UUP is sponsoring this workshop to provide information regarding reappointment and tenure consideration found in your collective bargaining agreement (the Agreement between UUP and NY State), the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees, Academic Affairs, and Faculty Governance / Tenure and review.
Friday, October 28 @ 12 PM: Academic and Professional Workload
Friday, November 4 @ 12 PM: Appointment & Reappointment of Professionals — Getting to Permanent Appointment!
This workshop will cover elements of an Appointment Letter, Reappointment Consideration, Notice of Non-Renewal, and procedures applicable to securing the tenure equivalent for SUNY Professionals, called “permanent appointment.”
Thursday, November 10 @ 12 PM: Performance Management for Professionals
This workshop will cover Performance Programs and Performance Evaluations.
Friday, November 18 @ 12 PM: Employment Security
How secure is your job? We discuss the job security that accrues to the various appointment types. We look at Article 35/Retrenchment, but also at Article 31 (Official Personnel File), Article 32 (Notice of Non-renewal), Article 33 (the right to request a review of a 6th year non-renewal), and Article 34 (Transfer).
Thursday, December 8 @ 12 PM: Gripe vs. Grievance
Our members bring forward a wide range of issues to us. It is not always easy to determine what constitutes a grievance and what does not. The goal of this workshop is to discuss what issues can be addressed as grievances, but also to outline various forums for addressing and solving non-grievance concerns that arise in the workplace. Topics include: EAP, the Ombuds Office, relevant Employee Benefits, Public Officers Law, Labor-Management meetings, Performance Programs & Evaluations, Articles 30-33 of the Agreement, the Grievance Procedure, Counseling & Discipline.
