The 2023-24 state budget has been enacted and our advocacy efforts have never been more effective. Our members’ voices were heard loud and clear in the halls of the Capitol, resulting in a record increase in state operating aid. This record increase is enough to enable our 19 campuses to close their deficits.
The state budget also establishes an endowment for our university centers, allows for the continuation of funding for new full-time faculty and transformational initiatives and provides hospital debt service relief and other funding mechanisms that can benefit our teaching hospitals.
Moreover, UUP’s call to maintain student access and affordability was heard as the state budget maintains funding for the Tuition Assistance Program, restores proposed cuts to the Educational Opportunity Program and other student opportunity programs, and rejects the governor’s proposal for in-state tuition increases.
